M165 Welded Rail Clip

Two-part welded crane rail clip with weldable forged steel base and replaceable clip top. The heaviest friction connection clip in the welded range, suited to demanding heavy duty crane rail installations. No minimum order.

Welded Rail Clip

M165 Two-Part Welded Crane Rail Clip

The M165 is a two-part welded crane rail clip consisting of a replaceable clip top and a lower weldable forged steel base. The two components interlock, slide and tighten together to clamp the rail foot securely to the supporting structure. The base is welded to the beam or sole plate during installation.

The M165 is the largest welded clip in the range, designed for the heaviest crane rail profiles and the highest lateral load conditions. It is designed and performs as a friction connection and must be carefully tightened to the prescribed torque. It is typically specified for demanding applications including ports, steel plants, shipyards and heavy industrial facilities running A75 to A150 or MRS series crane rail.

The clip top incorporates a vulcanized synthetic pressure block for rail retention and load absorption. The modular pressure block can be replaced without replacing the entire clip top assembly.

Applications

Where the M165 is Used

The M165 is specified for the most demanding crane rail installations where high lateral loads require the heaviest welded clip available. It is a permanent installation clip and is not easily adjusted after the base is welded.

Primary Use
Heavy duty crane runways on A75 to A150 crane rail and MRS series port crane rail
Industries
Ports and container terminals, steel plants, shipyards and heavy industrial facilities
Load Conditions
High lateral load applications where the M120 capacity is insufficient
Connection Type
Friction connection, must be torqued to the prescribed specification
Maintenance
Pressure block is replaceable without replacing the full clip top assembly

FAQ

M165 Rail Clip: Common Questions

What is the M165 crane rail clip used for?
The M165 is the heaviest two-part welded friction connection clip in the range. It is used for heavy duty crane rail installations on A75 to A150 crane rail and MRS series port crane rail where high lateral load requirements exceed what the M120 can accommodate. It is typically specified for ports, steel plants, shipyards and demanding heavy industrial crane runway applications.
What is the difference between the M165 and M120?
Both are two-part welded friction connection clips, but the M165 is larger with higher lateral load capacity. The M120 suits medium to heavy crane rail (A65 to A120) for most industrial applications. The M165 is specified for the heaviest applications where lateral loads are highest, including ports, steel plants and heavy industrial facilities running A100, A120, A150 or MRS series rail. If you are unsure which is appropriate, send us your crane details and we'll advise.
What is a friction connection in a welded rail clip?
A friction connection means the clip transfers lateral loads through clamping force between the clip components and the rail foot. The M165 must be tightened to the prescribed torque specification to achieve the correct lateral resistance. Under-tightening reduces load capacity, so accurate torquing during installation is essential.
What are MRS crane rail profiles?
MRS is a series of heavy crane rail profiles used predominantly in port and heavy industrial applications. Common MRS designations include MRS51, MRS67, MRS86 and MRS87, with the number broadly representing the head width in millimetres. MRS profiles are heavier and wider than standard A-series DIN 536 crane rail and are typically found on ship-to-shore cranes, container handling systems and other high-load port equipment. The M165 is compatible with the full MRS range.
Can the M165 pressure block be replaced?
Yes. The clip top incorporates a modular vulcanized synthetic pressure block that can be replaced when worn without replacing the entire clip top assembly, reducing maintenance cost over the life of the installation.
How do I know if the M165 is the right clip for my project?
The M165 is specified for the heaviest crane rail profiles and highest lateral load conditions. If your crane rail is A75 or heavier and your application involves significant lateral loads, such as ports, steel mills or high-duty industrial cranes — the M165 may be appropriate. Send us your rail profile, crane details and any drawings and we'll advise on whether the M165 or M120 is the right choice.
